School Workshop on Ocean Awareness

On September 4th on Thursday, I was able to do a workshop on ocean awareness for the Junior School.

What the workshop was about:

  • Sharks: Misconceptions about sharks and facts about them. I started with an eye catching video of sharks, and then decided to talk more about the misconception of sharks what kind of bad impact that has on the conservation of sharks.
  • Coral: All about coral, and why they’re important to marine life, and what they can do for us as well. And what’s happening to coral. (Also showed a video of “chasing coral”, one of my favorite documentaries <3)

The reason I did this workshop:

  • I wanted to raise awareness about sharks and corals, especially because these are the topics that noone really knows about. (I’m also very passionate about both of them, I think they’re fascinating subjects that can be researched more).
  • I went to a diving center with a conservation course, which made me more interested in coral and their conservation/restoration methods.
  • I wanted to do something for our school that would help the younger kids, and I also wanted to show my leadership and initiative.
