Question for JaneEnglish: The Europeans opened a new trade route to solve a “hunger crisis,” but that very solution invited an even bigger “health crisis.” In your current journey, what is a “quick fix” or a “short-term solution” you are using to handle a lack of time or energy? If you trace the “hidden trade route” of that solution, could it be accidentally bringing in a “secondary risk” (like losing creativity, damaging health, or weakening your fundamentals)? How can you solve your immediate “famine” without opening the door to a future

When I think about a “quick fix” in my current learning journey, one thing that comes to mind is relying too much on efficiency—like quickly searching for answers or focusing only on getting homework done rather than fully understanding the process. This helps me deal with a lack of time and energy, especially when I have a lot of work, but it might also be my “hidden trade route.”

If I trace this habit further, I can see the “secondary risks.” By choosing speed over depth, I might weaken my fundamentals, especially in subjects like math or science where understanding each step really matters. It can also reduce my creativity, because instead of exploring different approaches or thinking deeply, I’m just aiming for the correct answer as quickly as possible. In the long term, this could make learning more difficult, because I would have gaps in my understanding.

To avoid opening the door to a future “plague,” I think I need to find a balance. Instead of completely relying on quick fixes, I can use them more intentionally. For example, I could first try to solve problems on my own and only use shortcuts after I’ve struggled a bit. I can also set aside small periods of time to review concepts more deeply, even if I’m busy. That way, I’m still managing my immediate “famine” of time and energy, but I’m not sacrificing long-term growth.

In the end, I think the goal is not to eliminate quick solutions entirely, but to make sure they don’t replace real learning.
