English: The survival of Hawaii’s snails depends on finding their “perfect snack”—not just something that fills their stomach like “french fries,” but something that provides the deep nutrition needed for life. In your own intellectual and emotional growth, what is your “Snail Snack”? Are you currently consuming “Digital French Fries” (easy, instant, but low-value information) that only give you a temporary sense of fullness? What would be the “Nutritious Cyanobacteria” for your mind—the kind of deep, challenging, and high-quality “food” that would actually fuel your long-term evolution?

My “Snail Snack” is the kind of thinking that actually challenges me and helps me grow, even if it feels slow or frustrating at first. I realize that I sometimes rely on “Digital French fries,” like quickly looking up answers or consuming easy content that feels satisfying in the moment but doesn’t really stick. What truly helps me, though, is when I struggle through a difficult problem on my own, try to explain ideas in my own words, or spend time thinking deeply instead of just skimming the surface.

For my emotional growth, I think my “nutritious cyanobacteria” is taking the time to reflect honestly on my thoughts and feelings instead of avoiding them. It’s easy to distract myself when something feels uncomfortable, but I grow more when I pause and try to understand why I feel that way. Writing, questioning, and allowing myself to sit with uncertainty helps me develop in a deeper and more meaningful way, even if it’s not as immediately satisfying as quick distractions.
