One universal bridge I can use to connect with people from different backgrounds is genuine curiosity. Cultural differences can sometimes make people seem distant because we may have different languages, traditions, values, or ways of expressing ourselves. However, I think these differences become much less important when we take the time to genuinely understand the person behind them. Instead of making assumptions about someone based on where they come from, I can ask questions, listen to their experiences, and try to understand their perspective.

For example, someone and I might have completely different traditions or grow up speaking different languages, but we can still connect through humor, friendship, school experiences, or even small everyday things. I think some of the strongest connections happen when we realize that although our lives may look very different on the outside, we can still have the same feelings, struggles, excitement, and hopes. Being curious about someone allows me to notice these similarities rather than only seeing the differences.

I want to be willing to learn when someone’s experiences are different from my own. To me, cross-cultural understanding is not about pretending that our differences do not exist. It is about appreciating those differences while still recognizing the things that make us human. By being genuinely curious and willing to listen, I can become a bridge between people and help create a community where different backgrounds bring people together rather than separate them.
